Awake in the Darkness

Last night I watched a documentary by Aubrey Marcus called Awake in the Darkness.

Powerful! Who knew something so basic could be life-changing?

For most of my adult life I have searched for ways to continue awakening spiritually. Any time I read or hear about a new modality to reach the awakened state of consciousness, I check it out. Thirty years of trying and passing new spiritual connections, have allowed me to witness a lot about the mind, consciousness and how people react. Some things are backed by scientific research. Others, are based on individual experiences.

Aubrey Marcus created this documentary in January of 2020, before the pandemic. The basis is to be in a dark room for several days with yourself. It's about diving into your own thoughts and psyche. What came up for Aubrey was beautifully expressed with transparency and vulnerability. Imagine being in the dark night of the soul with no light to guide you?

I need darkness when I sleep. I don’t like any light obstructing it. The darker the room, the deeper into slumber I fall. My meditations are mystical during the times of complete blackout. After watching this movie, I have such deep respect for sight. We are touched by what we see and feel and touch. When we remove the ability to see clearly, our minds get triggered.

Just like silent retreats, mother medicine emergence and therapy, and/or breath work, this healing modality goes deep into the mind. It felt as if he was in a maze clearing out all the corners of his cellular memories. His returning to the light was transformational.

We have the answers inside. We really don’t have to go chasing them externally. It’s truly a gift to move inward, awakening to the dark corners of our own spirits.
